Privacy Policy

What Black Nile collects and how we use it to run accounts, generate and publish websites, capture leads, process payments, send email, and protect the platform.

Who we are and how this policy works

Black Nile provides an AI-assisted platform for building, publishing, and operating websites and related business tools. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have.

Two roles matter here. For your own account and business data, Black Nile is the “controller” — we decide how it is handled. For the personal information that visitors submit through a website you publish with us — such as a contact form, booking request, or mailing-list sign-up — Black Nile acts as a “processor” (a service provider) on your behalf, and you are the controller responsible for that data and for having a lawful basis to collect it.

Information we collect

Account information: your name, email address, authentication details, and basic profile data used to create and secure your account.

Business and content information: the business details, descriptions, prompts, text, images, logos, products, services, prices, hours, testimonials, and other content you provide so we can generate and manage your website and features.

Leads and visitor information: when a visitor uses a form, booking, quote, enrollment, try-on, or mailing-list feature on your published site, we process the information they submit (such as name, email, phone, and message) so it reaches you. As described above, you are the controller of this data.

Payment information: payments are processed by Stripe. We receive subscription, invoice, and customer identifiers and payment status, but we do not receive or store full card numbers.

Usage, device, and security information: pages viewed, feature interactions, referrers, approximate IP-derived location, browser and device type, error and diagnostic data, and abuse-prevention signals.

Communications: messages you send us, support requests, and your email preferences.

How we use information

To provide the service: create, publish, host, and manage your websites; capture and deliver leads; run bookings, stores, mailing lists, and other features you enable; authenticate you; and process subscriptions and credits.

To generate the outputs you request: your business details and prompts may be processed by third-party AI providers to produce website copy, layouts, images, logos, update drafts, reports, and similar outputs. Please do not submit sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for your intended website.

To communicate with you: we send account, security, billing, and other essential service messages. With your participation, we also send optional product, lifecycle, and educational emails, which you can leave at any time using the unsubscribe link or your preferences. Essential service messages are not marketing and may still be sent.

To keep the platform safe and reliable: to monitor performance, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our Terms, and comply with legal obligations.

Legal bases (where applicable, e.g., under the GDPR): performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, your consent for optional communications, and compliance with legal obligations.

How we share information

Service providers (subprocessors): we share information with vendors that help us operate Black Nile, in categories including hosting and infrastructure, database and authentication, file storage and content delivery, payment processing (Stripe), email delivery, analytics, AI providers, and security. These providers process information under contract and only to provide their services to us. A current list of subprocessors is available on request.

Payments: Stripe processes payment details directly under its own privacy policy.

Legal and safety: we may disclose information when required by law or legal process, to protect the rights, property, or safety of Black Nile, our users, or the public, or to investigate abuse.

Business transfers: information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

Public content: anything you publish — your website and its content — is public and may be indexed by search engines or viewed by anyone. Do not publish information you want kept private.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Email and your choices

You can unsubscribe from optional marketing, lifecycle, and educational emails at any time using the link in those messages or your account preferences; we honor opt-outs promptly. Essential transactional messages (for example, security, billing, and lead alerts you have set up) are part of the service.

You can update much of your information directly in the app, or contact us for help. If you connect a custom domain or third-party service, that provider’s own terms and privacy practices also apply.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict the processing of your personal information, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Where we act as a processor for your site visitors’ data, we support your ability to fulfill their requests.

To exercise a right, contact us at hello@blacknile.app. We will verify your request and respond as required by applicable law. You will not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. If you are in a region with a supervisory authority, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with it.

International transfers, retention, and security

We and our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

We keep information for as long as needed to provide the service and for legitimate business and legal purposes, such as complying with obligations, resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, and maintaining security. When you delete content or your account, we delete or de-identify associated personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required.

We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No online service can guarantee absolute security; you are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.

Children

Black Nile is intended for businesses and adults and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided personal information, contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of Black Nile after an update means you accept the revised policy.
